    • 5 Things To Consider Before Buying Blinds

Blinds are a great addition to any home or business, whether you’re starting from scratch or looking for a relatively easy way to spruce up a room. Windows are a focal point in a room, and window treatments should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. There are a lot of factors to take into account when it comes to making the right choice, that it may be overwhelming. Avoid getting blindsided, heh, with these tips:

      1. Style

What kind of style are you going for? Ultimately, your blinds should reflect your own style. Bunny Williams once said, “if you love something it will work. That’s the only real rule”. And we could not agree more. Your personal preferences take priority here.

With every blind type there are stylistic choices that may make one a better choice than another. If contemplating venetian blinds or vertical blinds, consider the fact that wide horizontal slats make a space appear larger; perfect for small apartments! Vertical blinds work well for wide windows: ideal for sliding doors.

If you’re going for minimalistic style, you may opt to choose shade close to palette of the walls, but once again, you don’t have to abide by the rules. Be your own ruler. You may even opt to make your blinds a focal point in your room, to add a pop of colour or contrast.

      1. Material

Depending on your situation, some materials are more suitable than others.  If you have windows that are exposed to direct sunlight for a large part of the day, go for materials that absorb some of this heat. Timber venetian blinds, honeycomb (cellular) blinds, and PVC plantation shutters leave the interior temperature untouched and are energy efficient window treatment options.

On the other hand, wet zones such as bathrooms and kitchens, are areas that prone to moisture issues and blind choice needs tot take this into consideration. Plantation shutters and PVC venetian blinds are easy to clean and water resistant, and so offers a perfect and practical solution.

      1. Consider Your Window

Your window plays a big part in choosing the perfect blinds, funny that. There are both decorative and functional elements to take into account

Different blinds styles open and close differently. If you have large sliding doors you need easy access to, vertical blinds or a roller blinds would be more practical than honeycomb blinds, whilst offering a clean minimal style.

Especially when ordering online, pay attention when measuring, because inaccuracy can destroy the look you want to achieve. Determine whether you want an inside or outside mount, this may be influenced by deep or shallow window casing, door handles or window sill ornaments, for example. Inside mounting provides a sleek and minimalistic look, whilst outside mounting make the window appear larger. When ordering from Blinds City, don’t hesitate calling our consultant to confirm any measurements!

      1. Light and privacy control

Control of light and privacy are a major selling point for the addition of window treatments to a room. You may want to block out light completely for a cosy sleep, or decide to let all the light in to create light and airy living rooms.

Venetian blinds are perfect for living areas; they can go from full light and visibility to complete black out and privacy at the tilt of the wand (also known as cord operation).

Different roller blind fabrics offer a high degree of versatility to suit a variety of needs. Block out roller blinds block out direct sunlight and are ideal for bedrooms, theatre rooms, or any room that requires full privacy. Light filtering roller blinds: can help soften the sunlight, and are good for areas that don’t require a high level of privacy but a lot of sunlight. These light-filtering blinds can be paired with block out roller blinds to ensure full privacy at night time. Sunscreen roller blinds can prevent 95% of UV rays while letting you maintain the outside view as well as privacy during the day. These blinds are the goldilocks choice: perfect if you want both daytime privacy and light control.

      1. Children

If you have small children or animals, consider the safety of your choice of blinds. Corded blinds may present a choking and hanging hazard for children. Cordless blinds may be preferred, and consider the option of motorised blinds. All of our blinds come with a chain safety cleat and should be installed properly. Blind cords and linking chains may look like a fun new toy for your pet so consider streamlining cordless blinds.
